Honor Society Thank You, Jonas Brothers!

Up-and-coming band Honor Society popped in on their MySpace to thank all their fans and the Jonas Brothers for an outstanding 2008. (The JoBros produced Honor Societys album and are rumored to tour together in 2009.) Honor-ary members Jason Rosen, Michael Bruno, Alexander Noyes and Andrew Lee write, 2008 is definitely a year we will never forget. We were blessed to be able to do what we love and to share it with all of you! One thing we want our fans to know is that we love each and every one of you. From the handful of you that used to come and see us play at Olives every week, to the thousands of you that weve recently met and had the pleasure of playing for over the last month and a half. We are so grateful to all of you for giving us a chance and listening to what we have to say through our music. Weve had so much fun with you guys, from releasing our EP, to hanging with you all at Six Flags, to our house-party tour, to our Knitting Factory shows you all have a very special place in our memories of this past year. We saw a lot of dreams come true as well and we have some people to thank. God for blessing us every day with life and our talents. Our families for believing in us and sticking by us even when they were the ONLY people in the audience. Our street team leaders, Kat & Rebecca for working so hard to promote us, all our state street teams for your hard work as well. This blog would not be complete without thanking some of the new friends and partners in our lives. A huge thank you to Nick, Joe, Kevin, and the entire Jonas Team for helping make our dreams come true as well as being great friends. We always like to keep good on our word and we promised you a big 2008, and were pretty sure we made good on that promise. So read it here first: 2009 is going to be huge. We are ready to give you all the bigger and better HONOR SOCIETY that you all deserve so stay tuned for big news coming soon!! We love you, Your year round romance, The Gentlemen of HONOR SOCIETY. Pre-Islamic Arabian gods

Al-Lāt (Arabic: اللَّات) was a pre-Islamic Arabian goddess who was one of the three chief goddesses of Mecca. She is mentioned in the Qur'an (Sura 53:20),

Descriptions

The goddess occurs in early Safaitic graffiti (Safaitic han-'Ilāt "the Goddess") and the Nabataeans of Petra and the people of Hatra also worshipped her, equating her with the Greek Athena and Tyche and the Roman Minerva. She is frequently called "the Great Goddess" in Greek in multi-lingual inscriptions.[1] According to Wellhausen, the Nabataeans believed Al-lāt was the mother of Hubal (and hence the mother-in-law of Manāt).

The Greek historian Herodotus, writing in the 5th century BC, considered her the equivalent of Aphrodite:"The Assyrians call Aphrodite Mylitta, the Arabians Alilat, and the Persians Mitra" (Histories I:131). According to Herodotus, the ancient Arabians believed in only two gods: "They believe in no other gods except Dionysus and the Heavenly Aphrodite; and they say that they wear their hair as Dionysus does his, cutting it round the head and shaving the temples. They call Dionysus, Orotalt; and Aphrodite, Alilat." (Histories III:38).

In the Qur'an, she is mentioned along with ˤUzzā and Manāt in Sura 53:19-23. The tribe of ˤād of Iram is also mentioned in Sura 89:5-8, and archaeological evidence from Iram shows copious inscriptions devoted to her for the protection of a tribe by that name.[2]

Al-lāt is also explicitly attested from early Islamic records discussing the pre-Islamic period. According to the Book of Idols (Kitab al-Asnām) by Hishām b. al-Kalbi, the pre-Islamic Arabs believed Al-lāt resided in the Kaˤbah and also had an idol inside the sanctuary:

Her custody was in the hands of the Banū-Attāb ibn-Mālik of the Thaqīf, who had built an edifice over her. The Quraysh, as well as all the Arabs, were wont to venerate Al-lāt. They also used to name their children after her, calling them Zayd-Al-lāt and Taym-Al-lāt. [...] Al-lāt continued to be venerated until the Thaqīf embraced Islam, when the Apostle of God dispatched al-Mughīrah ibn-Shuˤbah, who destroyed her and burnt her temple to the ground.

B. al-Kalbi, N.A. Faris 1952, pp. 14-15
