Slavery's New Face: Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls Slavery is a harsh reality for millions of people the world over who find themselves trapped in an exploitative and abusive system, bought and sold like objects, and treated with no dignity or human decency. How extensive is slavery's reach? Human rights groups estimate that anywhere between 12.3 million and 27 million people are enslaved in forced or bonded labor, child labor, sexual servitude, and involuntary servitude at any given time. Slavery exists in a variety of permutations, but all forms of slavery share some common characteristics: slaves are forced to work; are owned or controlled by an "employer"; are dehumanized and treated as commodities; and are physically constrained and unable to move. ---- The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency estimates that 50,000 people are trafficked into or transited through the U.S.A. annually as sex slaves, domestics, garment, and agricultural slaves. [map] The United States (U.S.) is a destination country for thousands of men, women, and children trafficked largely from East Asia, Mexico, and Central America for the purposes of sexual and labor exploitation. A majority of foreign victims identified during the year were victims of trafficking for forced labor. Some men and women, responding to fraudulent offers of employment in the United States, migrate willingly—legally and illegally—but are subsequently subjected to conditions of involuntary servitude or debt bondage at work sites or in the commercial sex trade. An unknown number of American citizens and legal residents are trafficked within the country primarily for sexual servitude and, to a lesser extent, forced labor. The U.S. Government (USG) in 2007 continued to advance the goal of eradicating human trafficking in the United States. This coordinated effort includes several federal agencies and approximately $23 million in Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 for domestic programs to boost anti-trafficking law enforcement efforts, identify and protect victims of trafficking, and raise awareness of trafficking as a means of preventing new incidents.

There can be nothing wrong with all Americans having a joint similar experience of civil what we call civil defense training or civil service some sense of service to country in preparation, which will give people a sense of what it means to be an American, Emanuel told NY Daily News reporter Ben Smith. According to Emanuel, this government mandated servitude will give people a sense of what it means to be an American, or an American of the sort defined by the bankers and their minions. Emanuel told Smith involuntary servitude will become a common experience, part of a government mandated circle of love that will instill some sense of service to country. As reported here last week, the Obama transition team put up a website spelling out a plan for required national service, but the site was modified and the word required removed after a whirlwind of criticism on the web and across the blogosphere. As should be expected, the corporate media ignored the controversy and instead concentrated on its regular diet of pablum, including the scandal of Sarah Palin and the RNC paying for her clothes. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 A newly rediscovered 2006 audio clip has shed more light on Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obamas plan for compulsory community service and a national civilian security force. In an interview with Ben Smith of the New York Daily News, Emanuel outlined the agenda for military-style training, essentially a domestic draft, aimed at preparing Americans for a chemical or biological terrorist attack. Will the liberal left pay as much attention to Emanuels stated agenda to implement a proxy domestic draft as they did to rumors of Bush bringing back conscription, or will the true scope of Obamas national civilian security force continue to fly under the radar? Asked by Smith about the universal service plan and whether people would have to live in military barracks, Emanuel laughed before responding, Were going to have universal civil defense training, somewhere between the ages of 18 to 25 you will do three months of training.but there can be nothing wrong with all Americans having a joint similar experience of what we call civil defense training or civil service in service of the country, in preparation, which will give people a sense of what it means to be an American. In response to the point that the program was significantly expanded in comparison to what the U.S. government already has in place, Emanuel responded, Guess what - we have a lot more challenges so we are going to need a lot to do it. Asked if the training would be military style, with people wearing uniforms, Emanuel stated, If youre worried about are you going to have to do 50 jumping jacks the answer is yes, adding that the service could be done through state national guard. A jumping jack is a military term for an exercise otherwise known as a star jump. What on earth does Emanuel mean when he says Americans are going to be forced to perform military-style physical exercises and what does this have to do with civil defense or preparing for a terrorist attack? It sounds more like the state-mandated physical workouts described in Orwells 1984. The video then features a clip from C-Span from August 2006 in which Emanuel is asked whether the program will be compulsory, to which he responds, In a sense its required of everybody, 18 to 25, three months, and at some point at that point you do it. The use of the word required is noteworthy, because this exact terminology was removed from Obamas change.gov website when controversy over the program arose last week. The militarized nature of the program and its supposed intention sounds more like a draft-lite than the community service angle now being pitched on Obamas website. It also bears similarities to the nationwide FEMA-run program training pastors and preachers to act as pacifiers in the event of martial law being declared after a terror attack or a natural disaster.
